How to Scrape and Merge

Scrape and Merge are the heartbeat of +1 Roll Ice Cream. Everything else — Flavors, Speed Upgrades, Workers, Eggs, Pets, Rebirth — multiplies what this loop produces. If your cash feels stuck, fix board habits before you blame the shop. This guide assumes you already finished the overview in Getting Started.

What Scrape means

Scrape is the active production action on the Ice Cream Board. Each cycle grows your scoop. Early scrapes teach timing: how long growth takes, when the visual “ready” state appears, and how Speed Upgrades later compress that wait. Think of Scrape as filling a progress bar you can cash out or invest into a Merge.

Good Scrape hygiene:

  • Stay near the board during focused sessions so you do not miss cycle completions.
  • Avoid walking to random Levels mid-cycle unless a Worker already covers production.
  • Watch for potions or daily rewards that buff scrape rate — grab them, then return to the board. Related collection toggles appear in popular tools on the Scripts Hub, but you can claim them manually.

What Merge means

Merge happens at the Merge Machine. Merging combines ice cream progress into a stronger product state so the next Scrape sequence is not starting from zero fantasy soft-serve. In incremental design terms, Merge converts many small gains into a higher tier of scoop that customers respect.

Merge when:

  • Scrape growth on the current scoop has clearly flattened.
  • You are preparing a sell into a Flavor upgrade and need a value spike.
  • You have time to walk (or teleport) to the Merge Machine without abandoning a Worker-less board for too long.

Delay Merge when:

  • You are one short Scrape cycle from a sell that already covers the next Speed Upgrade.
  • Inventory or board state is about to hit a cap that forces a sell anyway.
  • A potion window is active and pure Scrape throughput beats the travel time to the machine.

The three-beat rhythm

  1. Scrape on the Ice Cream Board until growth slows.
  2. Merge at the Merge Machine to reset the ceiling upward.
  3. Sell when payout advances a planned upgrade — not as a nervous tick.

Repeat. That rhythm is what Auto Scrape + Auto Merge (5x) + threshold Auto Sell try to imitate in hubs. Learning it manually makes those tools less mysterious and keeps you safe if you never use them.

Board positioning and map flow

Efficient players chain Spawn → Ice Cream Board → Merge Machine → customer sell point → Flavor Stands / Speed Store → back to board. Higher Levels insert richer customers into that loop. Do not teleport to a Level pad if you cannot afford to leave the board without Workers — empty production time is hidden debt.

When Workers unlock, the route changes: you can Merge and shop while production continues. Until then, treat travel as a cost. See How to Unlock Workers.

Sell triggers that respect Merge

Selling too often starves Merge setups. Selling too rarely caps storage and wastes Speed. Practical triggers for mid-early game:

  • Sell when cash reaches the next Flavor price on the Flavor Stands list.
  • Sell when cash reaches the next Speed Upgrade and Scrape waits feel painful.
  • Sell when the board is full and Scrape cannot continue — emergency sell, then rebuild with Merge.
  • Avoid selling mid-Merge walk unless customers are despawning a limited bonus.

Economy context for those prices: Flavors and Upgrades.

Speed Upgrade interaction

Speed Upgrades shorten Scrape cycles. After a Speed buy, re-learn the board rhythm for a minute — your old “merge when bored” timer will be wrong. Faster scrapes mean Merge decisions arrive more often, which makes pathing to the Merge Machine more important. If Speed made travel feel worse, you are ready for Workers or better teleports described on the Players Hub.

Flavor interaction

A new Flavor raises what customers pay for the scoop identity you Scrape and Merge. After a Flavor purchase, do one clean Scrape → Merge → Sell cycle before judging the upgrade. Players sometimes buy Flavor, panic-sell unmerged scoops, and think the Flavor “did nothing.”

Pets and potions

Pets from Eggs can boost income or production feel. Equip best before a focused Scrape session — see Eggs and Pets. Potions should be popped when you can stay on the board and still reach the Merge Machine, not while you AFK in Spawn reading chat.

Rebirth planning without breaking the loop

Rebirth multiplies future Scrape/Merge value but resets short-term cash comfort. Do not prestige mid-potion or mid-Merge experiment. Park a session at a clean sell, note stats, then follow How to Rebirth.

Practice drill (15 minutes)

  1. Three Scrape cycles, no selling.
  2. One Merge, then two Scrape cycles.
  3. One intentional sell aimed at a listed upgrade.
  4. Buy either Flavor or Speed, not both unless cash overflows.
  5. Repeat the drill once and compare cycle time.

Log how many Merges you performed. If the answer is zero, you practiced clicking, not the loop.

Troubleshooting

Scrape and Merge mastery is the difference between a quiet simulator and a snowball. Once the rhythm is muscle memory, every Qui Juice update becomes another multiplier on a loop you already trust.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

When should I merge instead of keeping scraping?

Merge when growth on the current scoop flattens or when you need a value spike before a planned sell into Flavor or Speed.

Where is the Merge Machine?

On the main production route near the Ice Cream Board. Use in-game labels and teleports; map helpers are also listed under Places in some script hubs.

Does Speed Upgrade change merge timing?

Yes. Faster Scrape cycles mean you decide to Merge more often, so pathing efficiency matters more.

Should beginners use Auto Merge scripts?

Not required. Learn the manual loop here first; optional tooling notes are on the Scripts Hub.
